Naturally Support Your Child’s Body Nikki, June 5, 2024July 4, 2024 The capabilities of a healthy , unaltered child’s body are more than we could ever imagine. That being said, most children (and adults) are not able to reach their body’s full potential because they are deficient in necessary minerals. When you couple that with all the crap that we have been conditioned to allow into our children’s bodies, it is no wonder that parents are worrying about their child’s health and body function. My children take a lot of supplements. It is apart of their daily routine and they love most of them. I couple these supplements with a mostly clean diet (gluten, dairy, and artificial dye free), and essential oils for when everyone needs a boost or they are sick. I have found that most parents dont even know where to turn when it comes to supplementing and supporting their children’s bodies so I have complied a list of all the products and an in depth look at why they are helpful. Vitamin D is incredibly important for overall immune health and bone strength. Vitamin D is vital for immune support. Plenty of sunshine (without sunscreen) and we use these supplements in the winter months for my kids. Selenium is a chemical compound that we should be naturally getting in our diets, but many are deficient. Selenium supports healthy joints and cartilage, boosting the body’s natural bone protection system. This can be taken as a supplement. (It also is great for hair health. My oldest had really thin, slow-growing hair from birth, and starting a selenium supplement gave her a beautiful full head of hair.) Stinging nettle is great for reducing the histamine response in the body and the consequential inflammation. I have seen it do wonders for my kids during allergy season so that they aren’t snot monsters. I have them on a Kids Histamine Shield that includes stinging nettle, quercetin, and elderberry (immune support), and NAC (building block for cells to make sure the body can properly detox and rebuild). Probiotics are something we all should be taking. We want the good gut bacteria to flourish so that bad bacteria can’t take over. I really like this brand in particular because it has a decent range of CFU, it’s a gummy, and it’s low sugar. On the note of the essential oils that I am linking and explaining below, please note: The American Pediatric Society does not recommend the use of essential oils for kids until the age of two. I have used specific essential oils on my kids since they were born and will continue to do so. Many natural baby products advertise the use of essential oils so it is easy to see that the information may be skewed and overcautious. Herbs and essential oils have been used for hundreds of years and I honestly believe that doing so in specific manners is safe and effective. Parents should do their own research and trust what feels right for their families. Lavender Essential Oil – This one is great in the bath (a few drops) and in the humidifier. Lavender helps calm the body and has been shown to reduce fevers. Frankincense Essential Oil– great one for general use in the bath or in the humidifier. Helps cleanse the aura and naturally aids the body with pain management and detox. Frankincense and Myrrh Essential Oil – I use this one specifically when my kids are under the weather or I can see their immune systems needing support. It goes great in the bath or humidifier and is pet-safe. Oregano Essential Oil – When anyone in my house is sick, I will put a few drops of oregano in a carrier oil (coconut or olive oil) and rub it on the bottoms of their feet. (Putting socks on after helps keep the oil on your skin and not on the sheets) Oregano helps draw toxins down through your body so that they can be passed through the body’s elimination methods. I have seen Oregano do wonders for coughs, fevers, and sinus congestion. Chamomile- This is a herb that I swear by in any form for stomach issues. I will use Chamomile Essential Oil– in the bath, in the humidifier, or in a carrier oil rubbed on the skin. My son is also a huge fan of chamomile tea and I have given it to him since he was six months old. Eucalyptus Essential Oil – This one is great in the humidifier to help with sinus congestion but it is not pet-safe so be aware of that. It is also great mixed with a carrier oil and rubbed on the chest. (I like to make a little container of coconut oil mixed with frankincense and myrrh, lavender, and eucalyptus. I’ll rub that on my kid’s chests, backs, and sometimes feet to help with coughs and congestion). And my favorite supplement that I do for my kids is Magnesium Bath Flakes . My daughter used to be the worst sleeper. She was one of those kids that would struggle to go to sleep at night and then would wake up in the middle of the night, ready to go, as if it were morning. She also used to complain of leg and back pain (she occasionally still does but it’s much less often now) and I attributed this to growing pains. I rave about the magnesium bath flakes because as soon as we started consistently started adding them to her bath, it was like we had a whole new kid. My son started getting them too as soon as he was big enough to be in the bath with his sister and he has always been a great sleeper. Out of all the minerals that our bodies need, magnesium is one of the most vital for all body functions and most people are deficient. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the products on this post. I would be happy to explain things further if asked.
